Christmas Dress Tutorial And Opening Door Nr. 12 (English)

Hello!

Its me, Operetta, today to open the calendar door!

And, since its my turn to open, I am also the one who will explain to you how to do the christmas dresses.
This I'll do first, and, as always with crochet tutorials, in two languages.

The dress is the one my doubleganger from the giveaway wore, but you can use the tutorial for other dresses as well.
Its how Clawdeen does most of our crochet dresses. You just have to vary with colours, then.

Let's start.

You need:

- Red yarn and a rest white yarn. We use cheap acrylic yarn.
- crochet hook size 3,5 or smaller
- Scissors
- a wool needle to sew up

Skills you need:

- crochet chains
- single crochet (basic crochet stitch)
- sewing up

As always, begin with making a loop.
For christmas dresses, you do this with the white yarn.

Now crochet a row of chains. 18 may be enough.
Try them on your dolls widest part which is the hip.
You have enough when the chains fit around those.

Then stitch into the first loop to end the chain row.

Maybe you should try again before going on if it fits on your dolls hips, like shown on the photo.
This is very important because otherwise later the dress will be too small for your dolls - or too huge.

Then do one row of single crochet. When done, cut off the white yarn, but leave it long enough to sew it up at the end.

Now, begin with the red yarn. Make a loop again.
Then you add it to your white part.
Push the loop across the hook as shown above.

Then pull it through the last white chain.

Now stitch into the first white chain.
Best is, you just stitch into the back part of your loop, as shown.
Because if you do your single crochet this way, the dress will be stretchier at the end which is useful.

Now go on doing single crochet.

It should look like this when you finished the first red row.

Again, try it on to your doll.
When you pull it over her hips you see that it will be too wide for her upper parts.
To get it more tapered, you can now do following:

Leave out one chain and stitch into the next at the back of your dress. Then go on with single crochet.

But now it is important that you make sure it fits over your dolls hip in each row.
Don't make it too narrow, otherwise you will have difficulties to dress your doll later.
When you feel it is narrow enough, go on with single crochet.
Don't leave out any more chains at the back.

End with your red yarn when the dress is long enough to end under your dolls arms.

Now, again, you start with white.

Do this as shown above, its the same that you did when changing white to red first.

Now do three basic crochet stitches with white.

Perhaps you fold your dress so that you know where is the back.
It should be where the yarn ends are.

Sorry this one is blurry again.
To crochet the straps, now do four chains.

Then, leave out two single stitches and stitch in again into the third, like shown.

At the front, go on with doing 5 single crochet stitches.

Then, do the second strap the same way as you did the first. Make 4 chains, leave out two single stitches below and stitch into the third. Then go on with single stitches.

Do another row of single stitches. Don't leave out anything.
After that, you have finished and now you can sew up the dress.

This is how the result should look like.

Here Twyla, Scarah and Clawdeen show you examples how to vary the dress.

Well, I hope this was helpful and now you can do dresses like mine of your own.
Just try out doing things.
It doesn't matter if something doesn't work out at once.
Don't give up and try again, until you have what you want.
The dresses are not really difficult to do.

But as soon as you find out how it works, you can do nearly anything.
Tops, skirts, dresses.

And now one thing is left to do for me:
Opening the advent calendar door.

Here we go.

It is again a crayon with a pic of Abbey, this time a blue one.

Now, this was a long blogspot.

Come back tomorrow if you like to find out what is behind the next calendar door.
